I was wondering if a sub could be put into my parcel shelf between my 6x9s and not be run off an amp? Don't know that much about ICE so don't go laughing now!

You need an amp to run any sub. You could buy a free-air sub but there just not worth it. Your shelf would need to be about 2 inches thick to stop it flexing. Amp you 6x9s if you need the boot space but if you don't need the boot space buy an amp and sub package. £150 upwards.

I saw the Sony Xplod amp and sub box in empire direct for about £150 and was wondering as well if this is good value for money or would I be safer just getting separate subs and amp? I'm on a very tight budget and not actually looking for top of the range stuff that will blow my ears out just something to complement my system

Contact Demon Tweeks. They are selling an amplified bass tubes with a 12" sub for around £170. Theres also a 10" version for around £140.
I think the Sony combo that you are taking about only has an 8"sub, which will be over-powered by the 6x9s.

You could also check the adverts in Max Power to see what different companies are offering, thats where I got my stuff!

My System:

Pioneer 7400MP3 Player £250
Alpine 757 350w RMS AMP £220
JBL Power Series 400 RMS 12" SUB £180
Pioneer 6x9s £70
Box for sub and wiring £100

TOTAL: £820

Just checked the ads in Max Power and there is an Alpine AMP + Sub combo for around £150. Includes Amp, sub, box and wiring.
