Hello, I would just like to show everyone the pictures I took at Zurich zoo in Switzerland. They are taken through glass and I was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice for future use, as they are a bit grainy as I had to put the ISO up a bit high. Camera used was a Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm lens. This was my first time using an SLR and love it.
Thanks for looking.

Looks spot on to me!
The only pointer is to always take the shot as close to the glass as possible, avoid shooting at an angle to the glass and don't use a flash. Looks like you've already got all those points though - great shots, particularly the first!

These look good especially as the glass was probably filthy.
Did you remove the lens cap and press the lens against the glass?

I tried to find a spot that wasn't filthy on the glass and just wen't as close as possible.
Just the second picture to me is a bit grainy and could be better. Was just wondering if some of you had any specific techniques or camera settings when shooting through glass.
Thanks for the comments on the pictures.

My technique is what I wrote. Lens pressed against the glass.
This method also allows you to use flash as the lens doesn't get any reflection due to being pressed against the glass.

Very nice and clear picture that, for through the glass. What camera did you use?
Other problem I had was the strange lighting where some of these animals were kept. Espicially the frogs.

I was impressed how clear this one came out when I took a look over it again. The glass there was incredibly filthy, with all the people leaning againts it and it was almost impossible to get in about to take a picture in the first place. Crazy busy, seems like the whole place just goes there to see the tiger.

Yeah the lighting conditions make a huge difference. Will keep messing about with it.
How do you find that camera?
