Think Ellis is correct. Basically standard plates is all you are allowed. Obviously the further from standard the quicker you get pulled but anything but standard is illegal. Needs to be correct size correct spacing correct font and have all the markings on it.

£60 fine.

Depends on the officer stopping you.

Those letters don't look like standard UK font so could get pulled.

Can get legal pressed metal plates from craigsplates.com thats where I got mine.

yeah thats a point, it needs to have the BS British Standard number thingy on and the postcode and possibly the name of the company that made them to be legal.

I think you would be unlucky to get done for those though.

You'll probably be alright with them mate, I saw someone earlier who has an italic Times New Roman font it looked like It looked hideous, but that's not the point.

You're meant to have the BS149a or whatever it is written on the bottom left and the postcode of the manufacturer, but mine says "corsasport.co.uk" and haven't had anything yet. Think it's pretty easy to get away with though seeing as it's just some tiny lettering at the bottom.

One I saw once said "Matt Berry's MG ZR"

You say that. My rear plate is off the net and has no markings but is otherwise legal. Has passed numerous MOTs. The front one did, till I smashed it in and it got replaced by the crash repair centre

If you've got standard font you're unlikely to have any problems.

I had my private plate done off the net without postcode or BS mark but proper font and correct spacing etc. Not a problem in the two years I had it, and I think you'd have to find an extremely picky copper who would do you for a lack of a BS number.
