As in jump starting with leads, or bump starting (pushing and letting the clutch out)?

Some newer cars (usually vans, but anyways) dont have the battery in the bay, but a red clip for the live, then you put the black earth on the block, usually on a lifting eye.

bump starting
Get someone to push you while it's in 2nd gear and you have your foot on the clutch, achieve at least 10mph or as good as you can get to that, then let the clutch out, if all goes well, the car will fire up. If not, try again, try to go faster when pushing.

Cables
starting with cables...positive to positive, negative to negative, fire up the car that works, rev it if needed. Turn the key of the car that's not working and it should also fire up.

Well you need long cables or to get the car nose-to-nose with another car to use standard cables.

positive are usually red, negative are usually black..don't get them the wrong way round! Look on the battery, it will show a minus and a plus (negative and positive) also.

Don't have the keys in when you attach the cables, don't touch them while the keys are in, only when the car has fired do you carefully remove them.

loool. I was putting the leads back on the battery the other day after charging the battery. Anyway I'm tightening the bolts with my spanner and this big spark come out the spanner (end that was touching), I didn't get shocked but I threw the spanner several meters away and I havn't touched the spanner directly when undoing them bolts again..

There's veerrryyyy little chance of getting a shock. You don't even need 'handles' on the clamps tbh.
