WHo here has done it?

I'm on my 10th day, and finding it pretty hard now.

I've gone cold turkey, no patches or inhilators or treatment. just zero smokes.

Any tips?

Yup, but tobbaccoo and other substances....

Keep yourself busy, whenever you need a fag, find something else to do, anything, take a crap, blow up a balloon, anything that takes your mind off having that fag for a bit.

Cold Turkey = All man!

It usually gets hard between the 2 to 3 weeks stage

If you are really finding it hard I suggest getting an E-Cig - alot of people have had success with these as you can vary the nicotine strength to eventually bring you off it

Triend and failed too many times. On about 15 a day and trying to cut down as much as possible, but i find if i dont have one in work, i tend to get very irratable by 3/4 oclock. Whats worse is the drive home if i'm in a bad mood i drive like a cunt.

Going to look into those E-Cigs Good Luck Shep

I went cold turkey about a year ago, stopped for 3 months. Found it hard at first because everyone always offers you a fag if they know you smoke. It got to the stage I asked everyone to not offer me one as I was trying to quit, when that stopped I found it a lot easier. Another thing I did was to stop going to the shop at lunch time to save the temptation.

In saying that, when Im drinking thesedays I tend to have a few smokes. This thread is making me really want a fag though

The thing that is helping me is that I'm trying to put on weight before I start doing weight training at the gym, so I'm supplimenting cigarette's for food just now

And I keep a box of tic-tac's in my pocket just incase, but feck me it's hard.

I stopped being a full time smoker about 2 years ago.

I still have the odd one if i'm out in town but I don't crave anymore. Recently been trying not to have any when i'm drinking though as I hate the smell on my clothes.

ive quit and started about a million times. Longest was about 3years.

Essentially its a peice of piss, just dont smoke. It will suck balls and youll feel shit but in essence its very easy. I find the biggest challenge is wanting to stop. If you dont have your heart in it you may as well just light up now tbh.

Yep, dad has stopped for about 23 years and still feels like one after a pint or good meal.

I've quit and then started again more times than I can count.
The mrs hasn't had one all week so I'm now just getting rid of the last packet then gonna stop this weekend. I've cut down from 10+ a day to about 5 and haven't smoked in the car for a few months now

Edit - Just realised on and off I've been smoking for just over 18 years

Yep i quit the beginning of this week. i went cold turkey and so far im not finding it difficult. As mentioned though if your hearts not in it you may aswell light up now. i tried the other week to give up but my heart wasnt in it so i carried on. i realised i was spending about 1K a year on fags when that can go towards my car or a holiday with me and the missus.

Good luck Shep

Quit in July, just went cold turkey. The first couple of weeks were annoying, but it doesn't bother me now. Can go out with all my mates who smoke, or be around the smokers at work without wanting one.
The key is wanting to do it, really.

My dad, uncle, aunt, gran and a few friends of the family all stopped a few years back.

My mum bought a book for my dad, The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Alan Carr (not the comedian).

My dad's on around 8 years now iirc, he was the first to stop and hasn't wanted a smoke since he stopped. My aunt was the last to give up, she read the book once then got some bad news within a few hours and the automatic reaction was to have a cig so it didn't work first time round but after a while she gave it another go and she's been off them for around 2 years.

My mum reckons it's the best £7 she ever spent

The Alan Carr book works for a lot of people.
First tip would have been not to go cold turkey and opt for nicotine replacement!
Quitting is about 2 things, the addiction and the habits, the nicotine replacement helps with the addiction and cravings while you tackle the habitual part. Best way to tackle the habit part is to avoid the usual routines linked to when you had a fag.
