out of interest, what sort of power have people seen from there 1.4 16v as mine has a mantzel style powerbox, decat, mongoose backbox, derestricted/drilled airbox, and it just seems like there isnt any power, at a guess i would of thought it should be around 100bhp, 11 up from the standard 89 at least

i had the same mods, but with a 4-2-1 manifold, and i had a print out of 115bhp..

you could do:

bodies
head work
cams
4-2-1 manifold
remapped

but imo go for a 1.6 if your really wanting to keep a small block..

For you to make any sort of noticeable gains, it will cost you more money than it will to slap an XE in it.

It can be legit with an XE? And you've as much chance of being fucked over for the dirt big trumpets of tb's being under the bonnet on your "standard" engine if you have an accident fella!

what are the most noticible effects of a decat?
are they worth the bother of having to refit for an MOT?

At 17 you should be happy with the power of a std 1.4 laddie! And it's not the lazy way... A 140bhp 1.4 (which will cost a FORTUNE) still won't be as quick as an XE as it'll have nowhere near as much torque My 1.4 (with Mantzel, 4-2-1, and cat back system) is being binned shortly for an XE

My MOT tester says that they don't make a difference to an N/A motor. I'm not sure but I've got a 159bhp RR printout for the XE and all that was done to it at the time was a cone filter and full system with a de-cat.

It's worth it purely for the smell of the fumes when you use V-Power in my mind though

de cat wil free up the exhaust a lot, as a cat is like putting a brease block in the exhaust system.

sport cat or de cat depending on wether you want to be fucked if they spot check your car one day
