Afternoon all. I have two HSBC credit cards with sizeable balances on them that i'd like to transfer to a single card from a different provider.

Have any of you folks had any good experiences or know anyone who's had a good experience lately with a balance transfer?

The last time I checked a few weeks back, Virgin and I think either Abbey or Barclays were doing the best deal as far as 0% interest promotions etc.

Any advice including any usefull sites like moneysupermarket would be greatfully received.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Virgin one and an Abbey one, Virgin is 16 months interest free, I've never had any problems with them, the card has never even been activated though.

Thanks John.

I was under the impression that the Virgin one would be the most appropriate.

Just hope my credit rating is good enough.

That was going to be my other question.

Are there any free, honest and reliable personal credit rating sources on line that any CS users have heard of and/or used?

Experian, 30 day free trial if I remember right. Not used them, but see it recommended all the time.

Does anyone actually know what one's rating would need to be in order to get a transfer?

IIRC the free experian trial only gives you your credit history as opposed to your actual score

But make sure you cancel before the 30 days is up or you will be charged £6.99 a month I think it is...

Thanks for the heads-up Mase. I actually wouldn't have assumed that. I'd have thought it would just run out. Cheers

Nah it gives you your score as well mate! There is no real score limit to get one Jim. As long as you have no outstanding arrears (which experian will tell you) then hopefully you'll be ok. It all depends also on your outgoings. Do you have enough spare cash each month to make the payments? The computer doesn't see that you're losing two payments to have one, so make sure you have enough expendable moolah!
