I'd say redtop still due to torque but thats a guess

It's not THAT much lighter, and unless you have a raised limiter, you'll be changer gears more often in the Sport up to silly speeds, and less torque, so would be pretty even til 100+ I reckon.

When my mate done his xe corsa he thought the engines were roughly the same weight. So same weight car same bhp but the xe has more torque and a better box. But it depends on what type of race.

I heard a c20xe is 30kgs more than a 1.6?
Not that much really, especially when people put daft high poundage front springs on.

xe all day long. unless you race in a class, i cant see the point of wasting cash on the 1600. people say its to be different which makes me laugh as thats a rediculous comment to make.

20XE. for £400 you can pick up a tidy engine, dump it in and have 150bhp with no fiddling. apart from putting it in.
if you want 150bhp from a 1.6 you will be pulling apart the engine to fit cams, arp's ect, and you will have to buy gaskets. oil, head bolts and so on, then onto the tunning, mapping. not worth it. a good cam kit alone will cost more than a xe.

i was told that with a strait through exhaust & different inlet manifold will get the 1.6 up to about 140 bhp

You would hate my project then but in reality I couldn't afford to insure a 2 litre but I can afford to insure a 1.6 all mods declared
As for the thread question, I have seen a few people ask this question and I initially wanted my 1.6 to keep up with C20XE's but in reality, it probably wont (mines not finished yet although I will find out when its done).
My point is, you can have as much BHP as you want, but if you aint got the right gearbox, then your hundreds of BHP aint shit.

You can get circa 130 bhp from an inlet and a good exhaust system, corsa inlet is very restrictive, air go's round all sorts of bends before it gets where it needs to be, so a non-restrictive inlet does work a charm.

inlet, decent ex manifold/system, chip/remap to raise rev limit, decent airbox?feed, arp rod bolts a must too as need to rev to 7.5k otherwise chances of rod letting go is good. think maybe headwork too and poss couple of other bits(sticking on stock gsi cams though)
there was an article from SBD but i cant seem to find it about tuning the 1.6 16v's to get it back to what lotus had developed them too
