Before I spend loads of cash on tunin the engine (1.4 16v) I want to get it as solid and reliable as poss. What kind of things would you advise replacing to achieve this?

Are there any factory parts that should be replaced with uprated ones? (Cams for instance)

Replace cam belt and rollers with new OE Vaux ones the only weak point on this engine or if going for big power get SBD uprated ones (see above). Uprated bottom end bolts are worthwhile if going for big power only £60-70 but an arse to fit

Get ARP conrod bolts -stops your pistons crashing into valves @ high revs.

Get new main + big end bearing shells.

Replace all gaskets (manifold, steel cylinder head gasket/ sump gasket.

Get and SBD Waterpump and uprated timing belt.

Also SBD Oilpump

Get an SBD Manifold and a TP 146 Kit with 265 degree or 280 degree cams (if u wanna go wild)

Now get a Paddle clutch from SBD to hold the extra power.

Should see nice 150-150 bhp no problem here.

And with those parts it will be reliable and really wild fun!
