OK so now it's all over, and in resposne to this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/philmcnulty/2009/10/capellos_world_cup_contenders.html, who would you take to South Africa? I'm assuming everyone is fit and available and this is my pool of players to take and select from:

GK:

James, Green, Robinson, Foster

Defence:

Johnson, Brown, Terry, Ferdinand, Upson, Lescott, Jagielka, A.Cole

Midfield:

Walcott, Lennon, Beckham, Wright-Phillips, Hargreaves, Barry, Carrick, A.Young, Lampard, Gerrard, Milner, J.Cole, Downing

Forwards:

Rooney, Bent, Defoe, Heskey, Crouch, Owen, C.Cole

To drop for the finals:

Foster
Lescott
Wright-Phillips
Carrick
A.Young
Milner
Downing
Owen
C.Cole

Starting:

James

Johnson Terry Ferdinand A.Cole

Walcott Lampard Hargreaves J.Cole

----Gerrard

------------------Rooney

Hargreaves would always be my first choice but massive risk of his fitness etc.

I know foster hasn't covered himself in glory lately, but i wouldn't take an over-weight, gone in the head goalkeeper over him

Doubt brown will be fit, wouldn't drop lescott

Would drop downing, he's stealing a living
J Cole also, too many injuries, dont think he'll make it
Hopefully same for hargreaves, concentrate on getting him right for us
Wouldn't take owen, or c cole

Green, Foster

G Neville, Johnson, Terry, Upson, Jaglieka, Lescott, A Cole, Bridge

Wright Phillips, Beckham, Milner, Gerrard, Lampard, Hargreaves, Barry, J Cole

Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Heskey, Walcott

I'd take two keepers, I see absolutely no point in taking three as the third always tends to be utter shit anyway, just stick Terry in goal if the worst happens.

Green
Johnson, Terry, Upson, A Cole
Walcott, Hargreaves Lampard J Cole
Gerrard
Rooney

Obviously this all depends on Hargreaves getting back to his best, if not stick Barry in but for me Barry blows hot and cold, hes at times superb and others just not at the races.

Time will tell.

I would be taking Milner, Carrick, Foster and Lescott mate. Not a hope I would have Heskey there and I would leave Upson, Hargreaves and Robinson at home.

Carrick isn't as good as a fit Hargreaves and an inform Barry so he can stay at home sucking his thumb.

Milner is a very decent player and very versitile and we need that when we don't have any natural left footers.

Foster
Johnson, Terry, Rio, A Cole
Walcott, Hargreaves,Gerrard,J Cole

Rooney, Defore/Bent/crouch

my starting 11 wud be like that, with the most Inform striker starting with rooney! i wud only take players who are in form at the time, not just players who get picked by rep!

I'd only take 3 keepers, and they'd be Green, Foster, and James.

I would only take Hargreaves if he was 100% fit and started playing like he did pre-injury. Otherwise I'd be looking at Carrick.

And unless Heskey starts more games he wouldn't be going either. I'd take Crouch and Cole as the 'big men'. I'd also only take Owen if he was 100% fit and played a few more games.

Are you suggesting that Capello could take 4 keepers? Madness, utter madness. Just take 2, if we have an issue with one of them I'm sure FIFA would let us get an emergency in.

I don't see the point taking 3 keepers and I'm sure Sir Bobby said something similar about 1990 World Cup.

James Green Foster

Johnson Brown Terry Ferdinand Upson Lescott A.Cole

Walcott Lennon Beckham Wright-Phillips Hargreaves Lampard Gerrard J.Cole

Rooney Bent Defoe Crouch Owen

I can't see Owen going but I'd have him in the squad.

Midfield was very hard to do.

If Jordan Rhodes doesn't make the squad then it is nothing more than a disgrace.
