IMO - When things like this are said by club owners, time is ticking away with their patience - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/8319831.stm
How many times have we heard "the manager’s job is safe"...only for him to be booted after another few games.
Does anyone else think that the Man Utd result on weekend will/could spell the end of Benitez?

He's just signed a new contract worth £20m, we can't afford to sack him. I don't want him to be sacked.

As Tom said, he only signed a new 4yrs contract in the summer so sacking him would cost a lot of money, plus they would then need to get rid of all his backroom staff, of which their are a lot, which would cost a similar amount again. Then any new manager would need to be bought out of their current contract (as I dont know of a manager who is unemployed and who we'd want), and then that manager would want money to spend to make the squad his own, etc.
Thats a huge amount of money which the owners wont spend.
Anyway, its bullshit that being sacked will even be mentioned, its a blip and something that will be forgotten by the end of the season.

Alonso £30m (raising to £35m), Arbeloa £3.5m, Leto £2m = £35.5m
Johnson £18m (£7m was the debt they owed up for Crouch written off), Aquilani £17m, Greek £2m = £37m
Net spend if you ignore the Crouch money is just £1.5m
I know for a fact we had the money there for one more player, we had the deal agreed with the selling club and then the funding was pulled.

Silva.
We had a deal agreed for a month or more with Valencia, and our management met with him a number of times. The delay was caused as his people advised him to demand to be paid in a certain way that would dodge the 50% tax. The owners we uncomfortable in doing so given the constant coverage of their finances, and the fact others would then want this - so that caused delays.
The the money got pulled when the loan was refinanced and G&H were told to lower it by £60m, and thats where this £25m went.

Jesus, so if that loan has been reduced, looks like the alonso money has been used against the loan does it not?
Definately not good a good time for liverpool atm

Yep, the loan has def been reduced and looks like the owners used the £20-25m from the transfer budget that was planned to pay off a third of what they had to so they didnt have to find an extra £10m each.
Not a good time for us at all, and I know if Rafa had known the money was going to be pulled he would of got the Silva deal done before he sold Alonso.

Serious problems, especially given how many losses so early in the season
It's very possible they finish outside the top 4 this season, only thing is, if they drop into the europa league they'd probably fecking win it.
They'll probably win it this year as well if they drop into it
