Only thing i could recommend mate is making up a demo cd and handing it in around your area telling them your up for even doing warm ups or stand in slots. Try make the first ten minutes of the demo quite exciting/memorable (personal intro or bootleg/mashup) as pubs and clubs will get alot of demos handed in and i doubt they will listen all the way threw them so if you have a memorable start youd increase your chances

not everythings digital, not if you dont want it to be. stuff like traktor scratch and serato are clever as fook but doesnt mean vinyls phasing out.

get yourself some demo's together that showcase your style & talent. get on dontstayin.com - people ask for demos & stuff on there for new clubs.

lastly - use your initiative, your not gonna get your name out there sitting in your room playing to yourself all day.

I DJ in Clubs every friday and saturday mate and just get your demo's about, show some initiative and willing and someone will give you a chance. You WILL have to work for free doing 1st hour or last hour but thats the way the scene is mate. You aint going to walk into somewhere and get a peak spot.

I didn't need to put a demo out

get enough recognition from doing meaningless parties and shit and you'll get there,

Never turn anything town tbh its all practice.

I've since stopped playing, havent played in over a year,

Have played with public domain in the passed,

With regards to Jonny P's comment I;d be wary about offering services for free as it'll be hard to get out of that.

I got a night in a club near me, pulled a crowd made money and they were happy.

You'll get a percentage of the door depending how they work it, because they charge extra for laid on entertainment, and thats you so if they charge you should get something,

My mate got into it by approaching a pub that didn't have anything on and playing there. Took his own set up and linked to the system they had. By the end he was doing wed, fri sat, bank holidays etc and coining it in. He jacked it in though as he worked full-time too in the week. This was a few years ago though. He played house music and there was only 1 other place that did so he got quite a following and filled the place up.

Yeah I DJ also produce as well. You need to have a nice style which defines your taste in music. Anyone can play the top 10 dance tracks that month for a few hours, wheres the fun in that. Also whats your city/town like music wise? For me Nottingham isnt that great so tend to play away from home. I think the biggest thing to get noticed now days tho is to produce music, if you start getting noticed from your productions then the DJing work will start coming. Everyone wants to be a DJ now & like I said above you need to have a style which gets you noticed & producing music will get you noticed for sure.

I Dj in a local bar, luckily enough i knew the landlord so he gave me a shot one friday! I got alot of positive comments etc so now i DJ quite often! i normally play a club set, and add a few of my own mashups etc! ive got an old skool dance night coming up which im really looking forward to. Also gotta do Xmas eve and New years eve! On fridays i get paid £100 for 4 hours, saturdays i get a % of the takings!

TBH mate alot of it is who you know. but its all about getting recognised!

In most places its not about how good you can mix etc, its purely about good song choice/crowd pleasing!

Networking is the key mate! My advice would be dont go to clubs direct. Most proper club nights are run by promoters who are djs themselves, not the clubs. So asking speaking to club managers etc is useless if you want to get decent gigs and make a proper name for yourself. You want to be aiming to talk to guys who run successfull nights for whatever your genre is.

Its sad but in the club world when you start off its more who you know, than what you know! Get your name out there by introducing yourself to the big names in your local scene. Dont be shy, but dont come come accross as needy either! Let them get to know you, and what your about.

www.dontstayin.com is a good starting point!

my mate does it, what you can do is visit youth centers (obviously not kiddy ones), and arrange something with the guys there, they're usually pretty sound about it. Also do the same with clubs but it's easier to get in youthies and it begins getting yourself a name around the area...

I started off doing functions mate. Bit shit as you have to know a whole lot of music to cover different tastes. It opens a few doors though. Done a few clubs in Edin but wasn't interested enough to take it further!
