Got a mate currently looking at the LG 42PQ3000 which is a 42" Plasma, stats look good apart from the screen resolution being a bit poor, think it's only 1024*768, But 600hz, 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. It's £474ish...and has had decent reviews from the places i've looked.
Anything else in that kinda price range that you'd choose? LCD or Plasma, does nae matter.
He doesn't have a PS3 or SkyHD, so at the moment wouldn't be needing HD anyway, but I'm trying to nudge him towards a 1080p for future use

I think i have the 50' version of this unit, i have a blu ray player and the 360 hooked upto it and they both look really good.

i would always go for 1080 whether or not i have hd stuff through it
you never know when you might get it

I have the LG 42PQ6000 Plasma, Its not 1080p and i dont intend on buying Sky HD or a blue ray player for the next year or so, but having said that when i watched a blu ray film at 720 it looked freaking ace!
You can pick this TV up very cheap now from some online places, well worth a look, its one of the sexiest looking TV's out, Single sheet of glass, no surround or anything!
I will always go for a Plasma over LCD, colours are so much better! more life like in films to!

Good stuff nismo, did see that for £479 at Richer Sounds, not sure on whether it's worth any extra over the 3000 though as according to avforums, the image is pretty much the same, i'd always recommend the higher number to a mate tho  Higher = better of course...

I wouldn't recommend buying a 1024x768 plasma, everytime somebody mentions one I can't believe they still sell them.
It's not even proper 720p, they get away with saying HD ready on a technicality imo.
Even people that 'aren't planning' on having anything HD will have soon enough.

He's always looking at the samsung ps42b451b which i think is also 1024*768.
Any recommendations for the price range then John? I've told him to try and get to somewhere and see if there's any differences in the pictures, but it'll probably be Currys/Comet who play off the same shared DVD, so not really any point in that

I'm not up on the latest tv's, especially plasmas, although comet etc never have them set up perfectly, it's still worth a look, especially for someones who isn't worried about the ins and outs of it.
Let them pick something that looks good because it'll probably still look good to them when it's in their living room and the settings never get touched.

From having a quick check on the net, people seem to recommend plasmas, and panasonics come recommended over others, so gonna try and point him in that direction i think.
fair point on the look good thing, if they're not too bothered about 1080 etc, then they probably won't mind the picture quality that much anyhoo, just trying to help them pick something i'd want!

My old man has this Tv and got to admit its the best looking around Ive seen shame it isnt full HD but not that its noticeable.
Cheers for that link because Ive been tring to find pricing on it as think Ill be purchasing this soon.

That's the one I have in my room. 42" flat screen HD. Not sure on the specific's I'm sure you could look them up.

Does the 3000 have USB input as this is such a bonus? playing films and music striaght into the TV is ace!
