I recentely purchased a Sony A200 and I am liking it a lot. Good features and pretty sharp pictures for the price.

Only thing I am looking for now is a new Lense for this camera in the future and would like to know what would be best. So here is what I want the lense for:

I go to a lot of Zoo's and take pictures of lots of animals, but the 18-70mm lense that comes with the camera doesn't cut it as the animals are just too far away. So I am looking for suggestions on what lense to get as I am pretty clueless at the minute. So much to choose from and my budget isn't exactly big. Any help on this would be great, just so I know what would be the best for such places as zoo's.

Been looking at the Sony 75-300mm F4.5-5.6 (sal75300) as it is more in my price range. Would this be ok for what I am looking for it to do?

Sorry for what might seem a daft question, but I am really clueless.

75-300 would suit you down to the ground for what you want.

Go for the Tamron 70-300, similar price (Think it's a tenner or so cheaper infact) and equal quality but has macro

What about the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro DG Lens, also roughly the same price.

Thanks for the replies, hmmm think I would just go for what it is cheapest at the time with these 3 lenses. Not really much in it according to some reviews, but the Macro feature would be handy.

if you go for sigma get the one with apo glass, i had one for my canon and used it once or twice and it was very good although becauseof the 5.6 at the 300mm then it was a bit annoying when in dull weather but other than that its a good lens. macro is ok on it but you have to stand quite a way away as the macro doesnt come into play until you zoom in a bit and its at something like 150mm or something stupid like that.

Yeah I read that the Macro on the Tamron/Sigma lenses didn't come into play until about 150mm. Also looked at the APO version, reasonably priced.

Thanks for the reply, helped a lot. List of what I would get first if I could:

1- Sigma 70-300: Heard lots of good things about this lense for the price.

2- Tamron 70-300: Cheap and effective compared to the Sony.

4- Sony 75-300: Price is still a bit high compared to the others mentioned and reviews are decent, but not as good.

This is all going by reviews, hmm looks like I have made up my mind already on what to get.

Nice clear shot that, now you are confusing me . Hmmm will see what is available at the time, Tamron and Sigma top of the list at the moment. Whichever I get I am sure I will be happy with.

prices range from Tamron £120 - Sony/Sigma APO £180. Sure can find cheaper sony, but thats just the general price range.

Amazon are doing a deal on the Sigma 70-300mm APO which is £177. Link Here

Amazon strikes again Sony fit Tamron 70-300mm £120 free delivery. Link Here

Canon/Nikon fit seems to be about £10-£20 cheaper than the Sony ones. I mean mostly for the Sigma Lenses.
