Been looking to see if I can get the train to Manchester and back on the 12th December so I can have a bit of a piss up in Manchester and go to the footy. No problem getting there but coming back the last train is about half 7 Coming back to Oxenholme too which is on the main bloody line!

And its £30 EACH for the cheapest tickets.

They wonder why people dont use trains, what a load of crap I'll just drive and not drink, it wont cost me £30 to get there and back in my car even with 2 of us.

End of rant

£30? How far are you going?

I used to get a return to Preston (or Southport) and it cost me about £7.50 max.

Oxenholme to Manchester Piccadilly.

I could probably get to London on Virgin Trains for around £30. When I went to Maidstone it was £44 return...

That always used to happen to me. When I was getting the train to Uni before moving there at least one of my trains every few days used to be cancelled for no reason.

I'm not sure where it stops at, I'm using the trainline and it doesn't say.

Depending what time you go you can get it for £15 return each which is a lot more reasonable but still doesn't solve the issue of the train times being crap

if its a stopping train or something then see if its cheaper buying the seperate journeys instead of one whole one. can work out cheaper at times.

The price isn't so bad if I could do the £15 one but I cant because the times are crap.

But I could still go to Manchester and back for less than that between 2 of us if I drive which I'm going to now.

Seems that trains are either a bargain or a rip off. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground. I paid £4 return to Birmingham International once. Yet on Thursday evening I paid £14 return to Euston.

Was cheaper for me to fly to Stanstead from Newcastle and give my mate petrol money from there to MK, then it was train. Train was infact mental money, over £100.

Flying at the time would have been ideal for me as my destination was near Heathrow, however there aren't any flights from Birmingham so I'd have to fly to Manchester or Glasgow to be able to fly down to Heathrow

I've spent a couple of grand in the last few months on trains.

I really, really hate them aswell. Was on one last night with a two hour delay in manchester piccadilly, thank fuck for that sports bar.

I found it easy and not badly priced when I went to London. The trains were pleasant enough because they were Virgin trains.

As soon as you stray off the West Coast mainline though its ridiculous.

Arriva Wales trains are fucking loud, and boring.

Also the trans penine, but at least they have a socket to plug a laptop in, which gives you something to do.

Just out interest I looked at the National Express site to see what a joke that journey would be. 4 hours 55 mins (140 minute wait in Preston) to get to Manchester

I can do the same journey in about 1 hour 20.

Buses and trains are ace. You usually end up sat next to some complete and utter mongaloid too

£30 for that distance is cheap...

Manchester from where I am is fucking £12-odd, and I'm literally 20 miles away...
