how is this done? I guess you could use a bigger alternator and attach both batterys to the alternator to make sure they both charge.

Anyone got any details?

Depends what you want to do it for.

Attaching both batteries in parallel will increase the amount of charge you can hold and therefore the amount of time you can run things without going flat.

If it's to run audio then you generally have a split charge system which will charge the second battery only when the first is full, and which will prevent the vehicle battery being flattened if the audio one is.

That's exactly what I want it for
