Thought id better start a new thread for this. I sold my clio on saturday and now have the task of selling my 206 GTI before I get something new.
There are a few cars I am considering, one route I have considered is buying something cheaper so I can pay some debt off and worry less about money troubles. There is always going to be that side of me that will push my money as far as I can though. If I do play it sensibly I am strongly considering an old Golf GTI, probably MK2.
Whatever I buy it will be used only now and then at uni but once every couple of weeks to drive me about 100 miles back home and then back again to uni so the miles wont be ridiculous. I will however want something to go to Le Mans in so I wouldnt settle for anything horrendously boring.
The only other factor that puts me off something cheaper is the prospect of a return trip to the nurburgring. Even though we have the MX5 track car I would regret not having something as quick as the clio, for this reason I have been looking into getting a DC2 Integra Type R, although my budget will probably be about 4.3k, they are affordable in this price range but they are all getting on a bit and hence a lot are quite high mileage.
What else can you suggest? Thanks.

A 3.0 Supra? Are you honestly on the windup? My 1.2 16v Corsa used to be able to keep pace with them. Especially the autos I don't even think they do a manual 3.0 n/a Supra?

I agree they aren't the quickest car but your 1.2 16v Corsa wouldn't keep with one. They are still 220bhp even though they are heavy.

a DC2 for sub 5k is going to be a dog and running costs are more than the Clio
I want one once I am back on my feet but wouldnt buy a high miler as they are seriously hard to shift.

My mate sold his 99MY UKDM DC2 for less than 5k and it was far from a dog.Genuine low miler, very well looked after by him and the previous owner(who i think had it from new).Good DC2s are out theyr for good money.
My 97 Prelude Vti has done 132k and drives alot better than newer cars with less miles.Honda's engineering is up theyr with the best of them.
98/99MY DC2s with average miles would be sitting on circa 120k and i havnt seen much for sale lately with a rack o miles more.
High milers shouldnt be over-looked if they are spot on when going to view.

How about I am basing this on the last 5 I viewed in two months? Look on Pistonheads and Honda Revolutions and tell me where there is a mint ukDM DC2 with sub 100k which has had its cam belt and major service done.
Also when I mean dog I mean defective paint work, ones serviced by independant garrages with no clue of what grade oil to put in it and ones where the seats are fucked, I've seen it all tbh
Also read any buyers guids and high milers cost loads to run in terms on new suspension componants etc etc

I agree with fad, I've not seen many cheap good ones... and the bad thing is, they're old / high mileage / ragged and still fucking expensive.
I'd love a dc2.
