Im off to oz next week and have been trying to find out if Im going to be able to charge my Ipod touch during the flights, as I want to watch videos on it.
My airline (Cathays pacific) says there will be power available but in the form of an 'empower socket'
quote:
When travelling on aircraft equipped with DC power, you need to have your own universal air power adaptor that plugs into an "empower" socket. This is different from your terrestrial power charger, and can purchaseon the ground at any major computer store.
Ive got a normal 3 pin power adaptor for my usb ipod charger, and wondered if anyone knew where I could get something that would allow me to use it with this empower socket?! Thanks

They are pretty dodgy. If you find one when you unplug it make sure you take all the bits out of the plug

My touch lasted over 9 hours of movies when i flew to the states so you probably won't have a problem tbh.

Empower to Ciggy socket, you then just need a USB In-Car plug (>HERE<.

This is certainly the plug i've seen on airplanes in the past, although having a quick google a few airlines seem to have a different sort of "Empower" socket - >HERE<, which looks like a typical travel socket.
Eitherway, you can purchase Empower sockets/plugs at duty free, and in either case just take an Apple Mains usb plug and a in-car usb charger (+ obviously your ipod/iphone usb to dock lead) and you should be alright.

modern flights have such cool entertainment stations that I wouldn't bother mate...
I used to love my long haul flights while travelling... it's user on demand style now... so you get a screen and get to pick what you want to watch, from films, movies, music etc.
I found I was struggling to fit enough movies into the flight duration. won't be long till they have the internet access too and then boom - no more problems.

internet access on planes is still a fair bit off to be honest, mostly due to costs having planes built with that equipment on board.

I was told th same thing for a Virgin Atlantic flight, searched high and low for a power socket and there wasn't one.
I'd get a battery charge to be on the safe side- they're a bit more expensive but atleast you won't be stuck f there isn't a socket.

The sockets are usually only in Business Class and above.

Good, but that was in reply to the Virgin comments.
Check the seating plan before you go though...

The flight I was on was to Florida from
the UK and vice versa. Flew back today and it said it was on upper class and above, as well as selected premium economy seats. As above check the seating layout.
