keep going, john clelland era for me. I think it costs about £400,000 to run one car for a year in the btcc. Remembering seeing that on one of the coverages on itv4

aye back on topic! i think having them all privatley owned/run is a good thing, evens the field out and it should be pretty close racing once everyone enters a car with the new engine configuration.

should be really good IF they manage to get enough cars onto the grid!

Ahhh but BTCC was most competitive during the Manufacture days of the 90's, and that was the best actual racing with limited rules.

BTCC racing is closer these days due to rules, weight additions etc.. More of a playing game opposed to hardcore actual racing.

RS500 days were a little boring. Sure it was fast, but it was RS500, RS500, RS500, RS500 etc etc... M3, M3, M3 half a lap behined. Fast, but boring racing bar a few good close RS500 races.

90's BTCC, BMW, Audi, Volvo, Alfa Romeo, Vauxhall, Ford, Pugeot, Toyota, Nissan, Honda.

Those were the days With Murray Walker commentry

Fast and twitchy.

Thats only because they had 550bhp in a shell weighing about 1 tonne

We need crazy cars like that again with todays modern cars. Could you imagine it.

I saw some Italian racing on TV the other week, 6.3 litre AMG mercs, V8 M3's, Chrysler 300 Hemis etc.. Was mega. You got the Aussie V8 series, America V8 racing etc.

We got restricted airboxed 2.0 16v's running 2/3rd the power they were in the 90's.... Wooooop

Indeed. The racing used to be lovely and close and fast. Plus the cars were appealing.

The last time I properly went to see any of the BTCC was 1993 and it was quite depressing. Just a load of underpowered, nondescript reps cars. The only things that weren't front wheel drive were the BMWs and they were hardly Grp A M3 material.

It's been the same ever since and when I accidentaly caught a bit of it again a few years ago when we arrived at Brands with some free tickets it turned out the touring cars were on and it was even worse. There were Civics etc out there.

All i've watched or been to see for years now is GT racing and DTM stuff, plus the once a year visit to the truck racing and the Britcar night race.

I gave up on F1 quite a while ago too. Motor racing isn't what is used to be.

best years IMO were watching the first supertourers in the mid 90's

F1 drivers, massive sponsorship, lots of egos, epic

Spoke to Mike and Andy at our regional meetings when they were proposing the sponsorship deal and they are running on a tight budget, also using the turbo engine will be interesting to see how they do.

At least Pirtek is the main sponsor for 2010 so we should get good market exposure.
