Got my MOT tomorrow, the current one runs out on the 18th, if it fails tomorrow, can it still be driven or do I have to have the work done at the MOT place?

if it fails, and your driving round in it is illegal knowing the car isnt road worthy even though it still has test.

If you over ride a current mot and it fails then the one you have till the 18th is not valid anymore. If your unsure about the cars condition then mot it after the 18th if you need more days on the road

if the car has no mot you are allowed to drive it to the mot garage as long as its booked in. and i think you are allowed to drive it home after if it fails

Its a grey area,if a car still has a valid MOT and has been put in before the expiry date and fails and is still being driven on the road, the owner can be fuked for it.

Same if you sell a car thats failed an MOT but still has a valid ticket, the previous owner can still be fuked for selling an un-roadworthy car.

No true matey... things have changed.. My mate is an MOT guy and has been one for a long long time... Ive been down this route before..
If its been logged on the vosa system as a fail its logged as unfit for road use until repair to date even if there is an outstanding vaild mot to the registration. This is why I dont bother getting early MOT's anymore

yes it will be logged on the system as a failure but it wont cancel the old mot.

for example: if your cars mot runs out on 18 dec you can have it done on the 19 november and if it passes effectively have 13 months mot.

if it fails on a tyre and you have it done that day but for some reason cant get back to the test centre for a week does that mean you cant drive the car for a week?

no it doesnt, if you get stopped they can check the tyre see its roadworthy has a mot and send you on your way

An MOT inspector can log a car as un-roadworthy but a car with a failed MOT can drive home if it has no serious defects..

An MOT inspector can not prohibit a car thats for the police to do.

but the cars not road worthy as its failed. and driving the car knowing that its not road worthy i think you will find is illegal, even if it still does have a month left.

the tester can fill out the form saying its not road worthy, or its fit to drive away to get fixed.
