Girlfriends dads car stolen on Thurs night/Fri morning
Broke into the house, took keys for my girlfriends car, pushed it out the drive and left it in the street with the keys in the ignition so they could get to her dads car. Also took Nearly £300 from her mums purse, which was for xmas presents etc.
Must have been stolen to order, neighbours have an S3, X5, Jag etc.

Indeed, shocking aint it, Golfs usually at front of drive, but that night my girlfriends KA was instead, just how they have the cheek to move that and leave it in the road with keys in. Was mint aswell, 07 plate with only 20k.

Everyone assumes that their car is stolen to order, because it's important to them personally.
But it's probably not the case, if they want something for a bank robbery or similar, they'll want something common, that doesn't stand out, and won't break down when they need to get away.
Result = Silver new VW Golf.

Fair play, i see what your saying, but neighbour next door has an 08 Avensis, common, wont break down, and was outside the house, would have been much easier to get. Just how they went to the hassle of moving 1 car, and opening gates to get it out, surely they could have found another Golf much easier to get?

I take my upstairs every night, not that i think anyone would break in for an 04 reg Corsa SRi, but then i think if they did, and they wanted it that bad, would they come upstairs for the keys? Horrible thing aint it, id much prefer them to take my car than come up and possibly hurt me or my family.

Yes and no. Thieves have favourite cars, ones they know the limits of, how they handle etc, another one may have left the Golf and gone for the Avensis.

My keys for works van and car are in plain view. Much rather they just took the car than stab me for the keys.

If they got in and wanted them, they'd get them.
I doubt your hard man image would last very long once they were in the house demanding the keys considering you have a girlfriend\wife and by the looks of your avatar, a new born baby in the house with you.
You'd be an absolute idiot to jeopardise theirs and your own life over a bit of metal on 4 wheels.

My thoughts too. Robbery pool car. That will no doubt be recovered in a couple of weeks.

Mine are close to me, but I can't imagine 90% of thieves have the guts to actually be in the same room as somebody, sleeping or not, if they're not in clear view I think they'd clear off.
Someone said about jeapordising life for metal on 4 wheels, but the bit of metal on 4 wheels is one of my biggest assets and something I have put money and sweat into, I'm not just gonna let somebody take it away from me that easily...

I know, thing is, the VW garage is about 500yards down the road could have had a wider choice lol.
