So when did the injury occur? 2006 or 2008?

He should sue WHU for something. Not sure what just yet but they are obviously to blame in some way.

Im a massive Crewe fan, he was the best player by a country mile that i have ever seen at the Alexandra. Probably on the same level as David Platt in legendary status.

Very sad for him, id like to see him involved in our academy set up in some way.

sorry, what? blame for what?

he was with england training at the time so hardly west ham's fault

you're probably being sarcastic anyway so ignore that.

no doubt west ham will have some form of insurance to compensate him for injury at work shit.

shame really, always liked him when he was fit. my mate used to see him training down the gym this yar trying to get fit again. wasn't to be

No, I wasnt being sarcastic, WHU will be to blame in some way so he should sue them.

WHU are to blame for everything tbh, and Sheff United should also sue them for ruining Ashton's career just in case he may of played for them one day (legally I may add, not like cheating WHU) and saved them from relegation.

Dont make me launch a joint legal case (with Ashton and Sheff Utd) against WHU because of your comments.

TBH we have to take some blame here for bringing him to the UK in the first place.

You did cause global warming though. And your players personally kill a child everytime a celebrity clicks their fingers.

I'll take the club as part payment, and jr's hat and half brick collection for the other part.

Completely agree with that, had a season ticket when he was in his prime for Crewe, and I also support West Ham, so when he went there I was well chuffed.

Only started 33 games for West Ham, gutted. He was a fantastic player, and i'm pretty sure Heskey wouldn't be in the England side now had he stayed fully fit and progressed as he looked like he was going to.

From an article I read a month or so ago when the rumours started about him retiring, WHU claimed X amount from England for the first injury, and because he'd "recovered" then got a re-occurence of the injury they couldn't claim more, which is probably why they'll be going after SWP or anyone else to try and get some money back

They wont need to go after anyone personally, they'll of had insurance which will pay out a decent amount as he has had to retire.

Agreed. (Hopefully it'll be a decent amount)

I'll try and find the article that I originally read, had a bit more info in it than I can remember.

From the telegraph...

"Ashton, who will be 26 later this month, has desperately tried to regain fitness but has not played a senior match for 14 months. It’s understood that West Ham’s insurance claim may be as much as £7 million – the amount the player is believed to be covered for. "

"Ashton himself, who was marked out by Fabio Capello, when the Italian was appointed England manager, as a first-choice for his country, is also considering making a damages claim. "

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/westham/6530593/West-Ham-striker-Dean-Ashton-expected-to-retire-from-football.html

Can't find the one I was on about tho, was on a WHU fansite somewhere

It's a big shame, would have liked to seen him fully fit and as an option for England.
