This crossed my mind last night and other thread reminded me
I have followed my father in the construction industry as an architectural technician
brother has also followed in the agricultural side of things recently starting up for himself
2 of my mates work at BAE as do there fathers
1 mate is starting an electrician apprenticship same trade as his
Loads of farmer sons taking up farming
Is this a common thing or more so as i am from a rural background?

Nope, my dads a self employed welder, he lays all and welds all the pipes you often see being put into the ground through fields, although it's took him all over the world. I should have done really as it's brilliant money.

Dad's a surgeon, mum was a nurse then was involved in NHS management. I think I'm going to end up doing medical product design, so there are similarities.

Old man is a digital audio software (low-level/asm/C) engineer, the old dear did H&R for some pub food chain and then did teaching for a bit, brother is a project manager/web developer, i did a degree in music tech and work as a recording/sound engineer (although do other freelance jobs). I've tried to stay clear of the web/software engineer, not that i can't do it, but i find it a load of bollocks and bores me to death.

Nope.
My dad had his own manufacturing business, designing, prototyping and mass producing things out of metal.
My mum was a house wife looking after the kids.
---
I'm a software developer
My sister is in HR.
So nope.
Although you could argue that me and my dad both 'make things' and are engineers of a kind - so I'm just the more modern form of what he did.
