I was a Volvo Technician. Very rarely these cars went wrong - Mostly was just servicing, wear and tear (tyres, brakes)
The older volvos old s40, v40 s60, s80 were a bit old man style for my liking but the newer volvos seem to be aimed at a different group of people.
I used to borrow new s40s, v50s c30s for weeks at a time. Very nice cars with all the toys you need. Feel solid (as you would expect) handling isn't as shabby as you would expect from a volvo.
Depends which c30 he is getting. I Used to like hooning about in the D5 R Design. Heated seats, dual climate control etc etc
I think highly of the newer volvos

I test drove the d5 c30 the other week wasnt totally sold on it. Was strange/hard changing gear because of the arm rest/handbrake. Clutch was really high and pedals were alot closer together than in my ibiza.
With only having a quick test drive i didnt feel like it handled that much better than the ibiza and it didnt seem to go with much urgancy although it does get to 80 quickly but just doesnt push you into your seat like i would of thought, sounded quite nice for a derv tho.
Just my opinions on it really and like i say was only a 30min test drive so cant really get a full idea of it.

Love the dash design on the C30 and S40!!

Interior on the C30 is lovely as said. In fact most modern Volvos have really nice, tactile interiors. I love the floating stereo in the V50 for example. Compare that with the current Astra and you'll see how plastic the Astra is.
I can't stand the back of the C30 though - I think it looks crap even though the front is stunning so wouldn't have one of those. I wouldn't have an estate the the saloons look like barges on the whole.
XC90 is nice though, I've have one of those

I have my mates 59 plate V70 outside now, got it until tomorow. Volvos are great cars, boring to drive though.
