On the road behind me, there were 9 thefts from vehicles overnight, all on very new cars (04 plate Jag S Type for example). Items were taken from all 9 vehicles. Yet on observation there was not a single mark or damage to any of the vehicles.

The police believe that some new fangled code scanner must be in use. They say that it may not grab the code, but it may block the fob from locking the vehicle, thus leaving the car unlocked and ready for the theives to enter and take items.....

If your car doesnt bleep when you lock it, like some cars don't, you may be none the wiser and just assume that you pressed the button.

Serves them right for being complacent. I always make sure it has locked.

I generally check my handles after pressing the button anyway, takes a second to do but ensures it's locked.

I'm the same...

I check it's locked 2 or 3 times minimum by making the indicators blink telling me it's already locked.

Well, if all nine car owners were stupid enough and did double check, then there may be something else going on then.

What about motors with keyless entry? No way of checking it's locked then.

On the Meganes, you press the drivers button once to lock, twice to arm (the hazards flash). There is also a button on th ekey fob should you wish top lock and arm it that way. Still keyless entry though.
