had car on a trickle charge all night still wouldnt start

jump leads out started

took leads off

turned car off and wouldnt start

but it runs fine so long as I dont turn it off



battery right? just wana be sure as im gonna go get one now

Sounds like it. One last check... Do your lights still work? If so, go out and put them on. Then try and start the car. What do the lights do? Do they dim with every attempt at turning over? If yes then I'd say get a new battery (from a motor factors). If not, starter motor.
