Tried to go to work this morning but it was slippy as fuck, even the main roads hadn't been gritted. Had to leave my car on a side road as it got stuck on a slope... just walked home.

While walking home I took this vid... bare in mind - this is the 'MAIN' road, the busiest in the town... yet look how ungritted it is... ice everywhere. Bearing in mind this is the main road, imagine all the other side roads... 100 times worse.

none of our roads have bin gritted either, a few roads have started to clear dueto the sheer amount of traffic on them.

Not been done round this way either.
Had to come up one of the steepest hills to get to my house and the amount of people who sit there flooring it in the hope of going anywhere is ridiculous!
I started at the bottom of the hill in 1st gear, stayed in 1st barely above 1k revs and just rolled up the hill passing people.
Had to hill start 1/2 way up, due to abandoned cars, but I got all the way home

GRIT DOES FUCK ALL WITH SNOW - the only good way of clearing snow is to plough it; snow will build up on top of grit.

I've just got back from 10 days in the French Alps where they were getting 10-20cm of snow every day I was there. Everyone says they cope well because they're prepared and have better equipment - BOLLOCKS! Its all down to money; their snow ploughs are identical to the ones we fit to the front of gritters, the diggers they use to clear the snow once it has been ploughed are normal diggers/backhoes - just with chains fitted! Even with getting that much snow, the roads were ALWAYS clear; Why? Well because they had the same routine of Plough, shift, plough again and shift every day! No special products or machinery, just keeping on top of it before it becomes a problem

Grit is only useful once you've removed the snow and got down to the road/ice layer

We had a grit bin and one ton of salt delivered at work on Monday to keep our car park clear. Not had any reason to use it since it arrived though Snow is all down south now by the sound of it

Same thing innit (spend the money, we'd be better prepared).

Still snowing around here, I need to go out and plough my driveway at some point ready for tomorrow morning's adventures
