As said, Forth Railway bridge. But isn't it a constant job of painting, by the time they get to the end they have to restart?

No according to Wikipedia, it says that while it'll have taken 10 years to paint, it'll last 25 years.

quote:

"Painting the Forth Bridge" is a colloquial term for a never-ending task, coined on the erroneous belief that, at one time in the history of the bridge repainting was required and commenced immediately upon completion of the previous repaint. According to a 2004 New Civil Engineer report on contemporary maintenance, such a practice never existed, although under British Rail management, and before, the bridge had a permanent maintenance crew.

A contemporary repainting of the bridge commenced with a contract award in 2002, for a schedule of work which was expected to continue until March 2009, but as of September 2009 is still ongoing. This involves the application of 20,000 m² of paint at an estimated cost of £13M a year. This new coat of paint is expected to have a life of at least 25 years. In 2008 the estimated cost was increased to £180M, and projections for finishing the job to 2012.

When me and my sister were young and used to go see family in Fife, we used to think the trains went up the raised sections, like a roller coaster, I used to be terrified of going on it due to that lmfao.

The road bridge is fun in high winds too. On another occasion going to Fife, we stopped off and me and my uncle walked across it (the road bridge) and there was a guy in his garden so decided to have a convo with him, lol memory's.

i worked on the bridge as a painter for a few months, great pay and the job is quite fun except in high winds as you feel your going to fall over the side of the hand rail as your not clipped on as most people think, only the scaffs get that.
the painting they are doing now has a polyeurethane (sp) coating and is expected to last 30 years, they started that at least 3 years ago when i was there and are still doing it. it really does take ages to do.
also one morning saw a man casual as you like walk over the bridge when we were just starting, in his pants and a rangers top and just launch himself over the edge, wasn't a pleasant start to the day.
