Who has a pub they have been going to on match days for a while?

Ive been going to a pub since I started going to the match when I was 4 or 5yrs old, got my season ticket when I was about 6 (think poss 5 1/2yrs) and have been going there more or less every home match since. This is a pub that my Dad has been drinking in long before I was born (its just down the road from where all my family lived), and is where my Grandad took my Dad when he was starting going the match. Have seen the place go through about 6 or 7 owners, numerous trashings through fights, met Vinne Jones after a Wimbledon match (he came down after playing to meet some people he knew on the table next to us), seen the place close down about 2yrs ago for the first half of the season (thankfully someone saved it), met 3 members of CorsaSport in there, and that was probably the lowest point in all.

Anyway, the car park we always parked in has closed (the school has closed down and moved, and the car park as yet hasnt opened back up). And all the streets around there have become permit only.

So we have decided to move up to the new school where its gone, but this is the opposite side of the ground to our old pub so have had to move pubs....is it wrong Im feeling a bit sad its not my local match pub anymore!

Not at all mate.

We got a boozer called the Gas Club. If i'm honest its a fucking shit hole. Its a working mens club that hasn't been decorated since about 1970, curtains are hagged with holes in and the white walls are now yellow due to all the smoking that has been done in there. The carpet is fucking rancid and the chairs and tables almost fall apart when you sit on them.

Only £1.80 a pint though, and serve pies, chips & gravy for £2

Its shutting down at the end of the season though as it doesn't make any money during the week due to the Gas Works not having as many workers, will be sadly missed.

Will be going tomorrow so will try get some pics as words cant really describe how bleak it is

Best thing the bloke that runs it thinks it the dogs bollocks.

Due to it not making any money they had a bit of a do on NYE, he was trying to to sell tickets to us and to bring down ouur birds etc and make a night of it. I couldn't think of anywhere worse i'd want to be on NYE, if I took our lass down there then she'd think i'd gone barmy.

Asked him how many tickets he manged to sell when we played WBA and out of 150 he managed to sell 16, and 8 of those were to staff who work there

Apparently he doesn't need that much money to keep it going so our lot that go in there are thinking of doing something to raise some funds, bucket collection or summat as I cant see me drinking anywhere else before a Town match. We even seriously looked into buying it but it wasn't feasable

I've been brought up going to the Wig + Pen in the town centre at lunchtime, it's the sort of pub that if a fan of a rival team comes in through the door they usually go out through the window. As we've just moved ground we haven't really got a new pub near the new ground yet, but at the old place we had The Drury Good Times!

They guy who bought our place is meant to be a fairly well off guy who didnt want to see it go down the pan, he wasnt a match day goer or anything though. Strange thing is (and I think I posted at the time when it closed down about this) I tried to persuade my Dad to buy it as I couldnt think of a better thing than owning that

You see, our place looked like the kind of pub where that would happen, but its always been really good with away fans. As its on the main road up to Anfield (one of the first thats near the ground you'd see) loads of away fans tend to stop in for a drink, and as long as they are up for the banter its OK. I remember a load of Newcastle fans after the famous 4-3 being in there and one giving me some Newcastle stuff (pen, scarf, etc) to remember such a good game.

Although I do remember some Chavski fans being in there, was hot so we were outside on the old bowling green (read old over grown bit of grass), she was some old woman and starting randomly giving Liverpool fans shit. Got in to a bit of banter, I told her she was in the wrong place if she wanted a shag of the granny fucker Rooney, her son and husband kicked off, and they all soon left

Had a few but they keep changing due to the pubs in York getting rid of the projectors.

Used to be The Northern Wall or Windmill then we moved on to White Swan and Cross Keys.

Ocassaionally go in O'Neills but we've started going in White Swan again, only its just a widescreen tv now

Thats the problem you have to get in there way too early! Theres a guy in there that does all the chants isn't there?

Its good crack afterwards. There is an oldish chinese fella always turns up and stands on a table at the side getting everyone singing. Its hilarious

Its Pete Boyle, he writes most of the chants and runs some kind of travel agency which specialises in United away matches iirc. You can buy cd's of him singing Eric the King etc etc

Have you been to Sam Platts? Its a classy place

They just put a marquee up outside, stick a few big blokes at the entrance and sell you beer in cans out of a fridge You can get proper pints if you go inside TBF
