They have a reputation for falling to bits and breaking down a lot, is it true or just top gear bullshit?

I inherited one from my old man & yes it did need a fair bit of work in the few months I had it.

Worst thing was rust on the front subframe & inner arches..........terrible for a 7yr old car at the time. I had to get it bodged up for its mot.

Id have another just not too old............nor too young as they drop loads in price in the 1st couple years - more so than other cars imo.

Sexy Italian designed cars
Interior always look fantastic and is a very pleasant place to be.
Usual minor electrics and sensors that go wrong. You can get parts pretty cheap, though. My mate constantly had to change bits on his. Saying that, his was an early model 156, i think? Perhaps they sorted out some of the problems?

Which one are you thinking of, Beazerman?

I have had numerous Alfas (atleast 5)over the last 2yrs. Only 1 required workshop time, after an obscure lump or polysterine found its way into the airbox of the Brera and kept stalling it.
The build quality was good (comparable to latest gen mondeo imo) and the drive on all bar the GT were excellent.
But would I gamble my own money on one? No.

Old alfa, stear clear.

new alfas, excellent cars.

Alwayus dribble whenever I see a clean GT, or a red Brera on 19" anthrite alloys. Spank spank spank.

And the V6 engine is a belter.

Build quality is better than my 02 plate VAG I had, has a few small issues with it but Perrys of Amersham have been nothing but helpful with it. When I say problems, nothing that has stopped me from doing over 6000 miles in it without a hiccup, my problems have been with a dodgy button on the steering wheel and a air con problem!

Plus, where can you get a car that looks awesome and is against the grain with all the features mine has for 15k? The fiesta of the same spec/same engine was 3k more.

I really like the 159 Ti and Brera S. Look gorgeous.

Bit too bothered about the reliability side of them. Would maybe give one a punt if there was a dealer within a reasonable distance but there isn't so definitely a no go for the time being

I'd rather have the Fiesta than a MiTo. Latest Fiesta Zetec-S in white looks very cool!

Even up until recently I know people who've had engines replaced, they tend to have electrical issues and parts are quite expensive. The t-sparks are bad on fuel for what they are, but i'd still have one. Read up on the one you want, I have heard newer models are much less prone to electrical issues or engine failures.

You would never ever pay that! First website I tried was selling it for less than 13k for the petrol and just over 13k for the diesel. And thats without even trying looking properly

i have a new fiat bravo sport which is baised on the 147. ive had it just over a year now and had no problems at all its a diesel which is the same engine , i had it remapped 6 months ago it made 205bhp 359lbs of torque. It also has alot more electrical gizzmo's to go wrong on it than the alfa but its good as gold!! AND I REPEAT ITS A FIAT!! so thats saying something!! Alfa romeo and fiats seem to alot better cars.
