Just looked up all my previous transactions with the DVLA since i started driving 6 years ago.
In 6 years ive owned 8 cars, all of which i have had my plate on, therefore paying either £80 for a straight transfer or £105 for a retention each time = A possible £840, the plate was only £250
It fucks me off that they can charge so much. Everything kicked off over bank charges being excessive yet surely it doesn't cost the DVLA £105 to print a new V5/Tax Disk and MOT document and noone bats an eyelid
I applied to have the plate taken off my current car(Selling due to house) however i bumped it in the snow last week and therefore needed the £105 towards repair costs. I called the bank to cancel the cheque and low and behold the application was still processed. I got a letter today saying that i need to pay within 7 days or my application could be delayed...even though its been done.
They have obviously fucked up and processed it without waiting to make sure my cheque cleared...do i ignore it?

Act the fool!
I'm being charged £25 to get a new logbook. Then £105 to take my plate off which = a new log book anyway. Dont see why they can't do it at the same time

Exactly, a bit of common sense says that just one charge could cover both issues but as we are not customers and we have no alternative they can treat/charge us however they like.
If your bank wanted to charge you £25 for a statement you would tell them GTF and go elsewhere.

What could they do? I have my new Tax disk, V5 Doc and Retention Doc for my numberplate? Only thing i can think is that i may have an issue when i come to put it on my next car.
