I'm gonna get myself a throbbing V8 which is going to make me vomit when I TAX it so I need something as a daily driver to soften the blow which leads me to the Megane 1.5dci which is £30/year to tax as of april and does about 50-60mpg (a bit better than the zaf £245/year and 29mpg).

I've never actually owned a french car though as they are normally big bags of TOSS! Has anyone owned a modern diesel megane or clio, if so what problems did you have?

My mate works for the AA and he says he gets called out to loads of modern Renaults but most are petrol he recons the biggest problems on the oil burners are the slave cylinder and clutch switch.

Opinions?

P.S. I know they are fucking ugly but I'll be sat in it so I dont care.

Dad had one. Good mpg is about all I could say really. Wasn't a bad drive, nor was it good. Just average all round really.

Things fell off all the time and the "Usual Renault Electronics"

so to soften the blow of v8 tax you are going to buy a second car that you'll have to insure tax and maintain?

18mpg and a set of rear tyres ever month would cost me more than the megane car does to insure, tax and maintain.

window regulators go on them. spill rails leak desiel the green seals on the go, mag cards sometime pack up..handsfree button (if it has it) go on them. get some where the slave cylinder leaks brake fluid onto the bell housing

I'd rather a Focus TDCi over the Megane. Similarly priced too.

I'd like at Astra G 2.0DTi's as well. Not the most refined engine, but fairly decent MPG and chain driven so not as many worries about cambelts.

There is a reason why the Meganes/Clios/206's/307's DCi's/HDi's are all cheaper than other cars.

The 307 1.6 HDi is a superb car.
The girlfriend has one, it's got comfy seats, good driving position, nippy engine and does 55mpg without driving it carefully. Seems better made than other Peugeot efforts, it certainly doesn't seem any worse made than an Astra of the same age.
Also, taking for example, a 56 plate Astra and an equivalent-spec 56 plate 307, they're about the same price. And it's more comfortable than a lower spec Astra.

I think when Peugeot started on the 7's at the end of the numbers, is when quality changed. Just on my opinion of seeing the cars mind.

Its the same as this:

It was a lease car and Its just had a new engine (old one let rip).. Its a really good friend of mine who has offered it to me for a bargain price.

I dont like the 2.0 and 2.2 DTi vauxhall lumps.. And everything else except for the 1.3cdti is bucks on tax, I'd only have a 1.3cdti corsa if it had easytronic (i'd get bored of changing gear on a such a pathetic engine) and they are rare as fuck.

That's actually quite a good car.

1.9cdti in my astra is only 125 tax

thats over 4 times more than the Renault plus a 1.9cdti astra will be more expensive to buy and insure.

The idea is to get something thats 30quid to tax so when im paying just under £500 for the V8 it will be like what im paying now

I'll be fucked if the government are having anymore of my hard earned cash!
