expires end of the month, i assume you can buy it at any point really, but if i buy now will i pay for january? dont wanna end up with 11 months mot for buying a day or 2 earlier than i should have

yes, you can tax a car up to 5 days before the date of expiry.

if you taxed it yesterday it would've been back date to the beginning on jan. but today is fine.

You sure? I didn't think that was how it worked. I have bought mine over 5 days before and its not back dated.
