Fan has been coming on a lot lately so I stripped it down to see what the problem was. Not only was it full of dust and carpet, but one of the heat sink clips is broken as well so the sink isn't even contacting the processor properly.
And I can't find said clip anywhere to buy unless I get an entire board.
Plus it can't even cope with Youtube videos if they're even remotely high res.
Plus it can't cope with FB chat and Firefox in general.
I would change the board but I've not built one for that long I don't even know what goes with what any more. Plus that would probably then mean that my IDE drives and PCI video card were no good.

is it the clip on the heat sink itself, or the thing it attaches to on the board?

Its the clip on the board. Looked today at a scrapper one in work and the clips are different so I couldn't even salvage that clip. Need a matched clip and heatsink I think.

Identifying the mobo/cpu would give what clip you needed, would it not?

Ian, dont even bother. You say you are running on PCI and IDE Seriously, you could buy a much better PC for not shy of £300 which would last as long as this one has
