My dad's always wanted to do this on a motorbike - Easy Rider style.

I looked into it over xmas, would love to do it when I graduate from uni. Have you just booked flights and a car or have you sorted acommodation too?

flights car and accommodation

flights to Chicago with Virgin/AA were nearly 1500 for 2 and even more expensive back from LA

Therefore went with a package sort of deal

Route 66 mileages (miles)
Chicago to Springfield, Illinois 200
Springfield to St Louis 98
St Louis to Springfield, Missouri 217
Springfield to Tulsa/Broken Arrow 396
Tulsa/Broken Arrow to Amarillo 366
Amarillo to Santa Fe 280
Santa Fe to Alberquerque 63
Alberquerque to Holbrook 232
Holbrook to Flagstaff 90
Flagstaff to Las Vegas 251
Las Vegas to Santa Monica 286

Sounds awsome mate, some good places on there too! When we last went to USA, it was cheaper for us to fly from manchester to germany, then across the pond. There are some interesting forgotten/ghost towns down route 66 too. I know one is the original birthplace of maple syrup

Is it expensive to hire a decentish car to do this in? Have you got all hotels pre-booked or are you just rocking up where ever and seeing whats available

everything has been pre-booked mate - It cost an extra £389 for a convertible and the plat insurance as you need the insurance that covers liability etc otherwise some states may refuse entry etc if papers are checked

I was going to do Route66, but decided against it, instead going to do Calgary, down the west coast to San Fransisco, then across to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, up towards Yellowstone then back to Calgary on the other side of the rockies, all on motorbike
