Got a budget of about £600 and want a decent camera thats not to hard to use, comes with all the kit (memory card, lens, computer stuff) and doesnt require upgrading the lens really etc.

Been looking at -

Canon 1000d

Canon 500d

Canon 450d

Nikon D60

Praps with the cheaper ones I could actualy get another lens too....

Cheers

Question..

What are you planning on using it for ?

If you want to take track days etc your best off getting a fast zoom lens for example.

1000d very good camera had one for the past year and half but upgraded to the 50d now just as id outgrown the 1000d and very much the basic entry level slr camera canon do so if your completely new may be good as it is very simple to use etc.

Canon 500d exactly the same as the 1000d body shape wise, just 15.1mp instead of 10.1 and also has full hdmi video recording.

nikon also a cracking camera only used one once so cant really comment on it.

i would suggest going into a shop and handling them all to see whic you prefer the feel off as everyone could say canon or nikon and you may prefer the other if that makes sense.

I'm after one as well at the moment. Had been using my brothers 30D for the last 6 months but need to get one of my own now
After reading a load of reviews I've decided to go for the Nikon D5000, can be had with a lens for around £500 which will leave you a bit of money for a tripod

My first Camera was a D60, the more i got into photography the more I had wished I went for the 400d (at the time). As there was more options and settings I would of liked.

Now however, i'm looking between the D300s and a Canon 7D, won't be till summer untill the prices are down. Even though i've had a D60 and D300 i'm still not convinced Nikon are better, again more features in the 7d I would like... higher iso, more mp (mainly for cropping images and keeping quality though, i wouldn't be printing...)

At the end of the day, if you get really into photography, then i'd say the Canon 500d... If you're wanting to use it now and then, but have an easier interface then get the d60.

you might want to keep some money aside to buy a tripod too. a decent tripod will improve your shots a lot.

yeah, i like my A200 too, its done everything i've asked of it so far, and for £290(ish) i'm certainly not complaining. yeah i've bought other lenses but thats what i fancied

i'm not sure that they sell them anymore, i think the base model these days is the A230 which is alittle bit more expensive, but not by alot

if you gonna get a nikon, dont bother with the D40, D60, D5000 imo, go for a D90, as it's got the autofucus motor in the body unlike them too, and it's just as easy to use as them, but gives much better photo's

nope, it's an entry level one, made for the cheap

So here we have a camera that genuinely seems to sit above the D60 (rather than continuing in parallel until the stock runs out), and below the D90. Like the baby Nikons, the D5000 doesn't have an autofocus motor built into the body but does gain a tilt-and-swivel LCD.

not a bad camera them really, can be picked up rather cheap too now,
but for a little extra, could get a second hand D90, which better in low light, better sensor etc etc

500 also has the newer digic 4 processor, and 9 focusing points as apposed to seven. The body shares the same silhouette but the 500 has a nicer grip on it. The 1000d is mainly made up from old 400D parts and I dont doubt a second hand 400 wouldnt be just as good bar the live view which isnt great anyway.
