Looking for something to replace the Navara... but not really wanting another pickup. I'd prefer turbo diesel but willing to have a laugh at the V8 fuel figures I suppose (if anyone knows them?)
Short list so far..
Range Rover Sport (looking about 28k for TDV6 on 07 plate)
Porsche Cayenne (dirt cheap for 03/04 petrol models)
Audi Q7 (expensivo)
BMW X5 (20k+ for 06 plate)
VW Touareg (18k+ for 07 plate)
Land Rover Discovery (about 18k for 07 plate)
The BMW and Touareg make the most sense financially (second hand) as all the TD Cayenne's are bloody expesive (must be new addition to range) and I'm wary of the fuel bills if we went petrol V8. Bear in mind this thing will prob do about 8000miles of towing (1.7t) in a year.
Our poor navara is only an 08 plate and its passed 26000 miles with lots of towing. It does about 23mpg when towing. My old V8 Range Rover did about 10mpg.
Prefference is auto, black, leather (and a fridge )

What's the X5, Cayenne and Touareg towing capcaity iirc its 2750kg; The LR/RR/Q7 are 3500kg
I would also look at RR Vogues; you can pick a slightly older model, 03/04 model for 12k-15k dependant on mileage - I use the missus' for towing everything and have no issues with it.
Out of your list though, I would go for the Disco 3

I took a Disco 3 right down through France to the Alps with 7 people, snowboards, skis and everything and had a very good journey down - iirc we were averaging 26/27mpg
The Sport is okay, I've used one to pull boats up slipways etc; but if it was me I'd look at the Vogue over the Sport; it feels more solid somehow; but then if it was purely being bought for its towing capabilities I'd go for the Disco 3

as in the Skyline Estate Stagea? If so NO..... We need to tow cars that weigh about that same as it. Not very safe.

Older petrol Cayenne, what you save in purchase price over the diesel you can use on the inevitable fuel costs. Do the math and see if its viable?

I thought you could get a little fleet going
Have you still got the r32? or did it make way for the Impreza?
is the tow vehicle something that will be used lots? im not aware how many track events you do
seems pointless spending lots of money on a range rover or cayenne if its gonna only be used 1 week of a month
how much did you like the navara? what about a qashqai or pathfinder?

What about this Adam?

this is my mates one, he used it for towing his saph cos all the time before he bought his iveco van and converted it.
he used to have a full set of spare wheels, and the rear seets folded down with big toolbox etc in the rear and it never knew the car was on the back, cruise control set, and away it went, cracking jeep.

Touareg seem good value for money compared to their rivals. 3.0TDI is a good engine too.
RRS are nice but I'm not sure what they are like with the 2.7 TDV6. I know the TDV8 is bloody nice as I've spent a couple of hours driving one but they are silly money

Very Good gareth.
Kurt - Have two trackcars (impreza and R32)... both used quite a lot. Maybe 15 - 20 events a year.
Kev - Na, wanting something with a bit of luxuary this time. Navara is ok, but just finding it a bit 'commercial' after 2 years (its an Outlaw so not basic basic).
Been to look/sit in a few cars this afternoon.
Range Rover Sport TDV6 - 07 plate, auto, black with black. Around 30k with quite low miles.
TDV6 Disco3 - 17k - cloth interior - I didnt like it much.
03 Range Rover Vogue - 50k miles, silver, ok for 17k. Would prefer the facelift version though. Anyone know when they were fazed in?
