Morning all.

I am the sort of person that if not woken up in the morning could, and does, sleep in until like 12, 1pm.

but for the past week, when i have gone bed i have left my curtains open, so that in the morning the sun shines in and wakes me. i have noticed i am getting up really early every day, and feel awake and refreshed!!

normally when i set alarm early and wake up im proper grumpy and snappy, but since sleeping with curtains open and getting sunlight in, i feel mint.

why is this?

I've noticed this too. All I can put it down to is when u wake up 'natuarly', insted of gettin woke up by a really annoying beeping alarm.

i've been doing the exact same thing for the last few weeks, its such a nicer way of waking up.

as for waking up at midday (and correct me if i'm talking bollocks here) isn't your body suppposed to sleep in cycles of 8 hours each? so if you say went to bed at 12 and got up at 8 you've completed 1 full cycle and will feel very awake. whereas if you went to bed at 12 and got up at 12 you've completed one cycle then woke up in the middle of another and thats whats making you feel tired, despite having an extra 4 hours sleep

you can get alarms to wake you up with light instead of sound, its because when your alarm goes off it wakes you up suddenly and automatically pisses you off. where as with the light gradually waking you up it doesnt have that instant shock that pisses you off.

Willay off here was raving about they alarms on here not long ago

It's because your body produces a chemical to wake you up when it gets sunny.

Your body sleeps in cycles of around 90 minutes iirc, nobody knows where the 8 hours comes from, it's nothing scientific.

you're not meant to have 12 hour sleeps thats why.

i feel like shite aswell if i do the same.

used to wake up at 3:30pm after a night shift, which would be 8.5 hours sleep.

started waking up at 2pm and feel so much better.

i always leave the blinds open and usually wake up before my alarm, something to do with waking gradually, you can get that alarm clock that slowly lights up the room

Too much sleep can make you more tired than not enough sleep.
Also, its because your body wakes naturally, rather than being forced to wake up.

I don't know how the 8 hours thing became 'fact' and neither did the sleep scientists and doctors on the program I was watching, was on BBC I think a couple of years ago now.

There's loads on the net about sleep and various ways of doing it.

I end up feeling more tired the more sleep I get, it's really really difficult to get out of bed after any amount though

funny thing sleep isnt it, you would just presume your body would just wake up when you have had ample sleep, not usually the case though unfortunetly

Willay commented on this recently - about the use of 'fake light alarms' to wake you.

It's to do with light hitting the back of your eye and waking you up for the morning.
