This new Vista Guardian thing has popped up & it's telling me that my PC is infected & under stealth attacks.
Never heard of this Guardian thing before but Windows are obviously that concerned about it that they won't do anything about it until I pay $50. That gives me protection for 6 months
How worried should I be?

Start in safe mode with networking, download and install malwarebytes anti-malware, run, delete everything it finds and restarts, should be fixed.

Restart normally then just after the BIOS screen (one that says Dell/HP/Random make as soon as the computer is turned on) start tapping the F8 key, should get a menu with options.
Before that, just try downloading and running it, sometimes it will clean it while in normal windows.

I've had this one for plenty of locals along with the "Vista Security 2010" malware.
Malwarebytes was able to deal with both of them without going into safe mode. Both required a reg import to get back all the correct shell open command entries.

I've dealt with loads of them and some do require going into safe mode, I've never needed a reg import.

You tend too find these sorts of programs just install themselves into C:\ProgramData (hidden folder).
Delete the folder (normally a random 10 digit sequence) and remove the "run" entry out of the registy. Works a treat for me. I then whack the ten digit number into Windows Search and delete anything I need to and same in the registry.
Do this with caution though! Normally this stuff has to be done in safe mode
