They are pretty good cars but there are a few issues:
a) Its french so the build quality is terrible and anything electrical will be held together by a hope and a prayer.
b) They are made of metal so thin even the rust doesnt want it.
c) They have a rear torsion beam.

personal opinion i guess, i loved my vts, if it was possible id happily do a striaght swap for my corsa turbo for it, i had much more enjoyment out of driving it.
but the thing about torsion bars is, they only mess up if lowered incorrectly

VTS's are very quick cars. I loved the fact that with mine, you could rev the balls off it and the engine was so responsive. With some careful breathing choices, not many things in its class comes close, including valver Corsa's let alone a 1.8.
But as said the build qualility is awful and any chassis modifications and they will cry and brake.

exactly, all i have done to mine was l&B flywheel, bmc enclosed ait filter, 4-2-1 mani with sports cat and straight through exhaust system, and mine could almost sit along side a cammed c20xe corsa, although a month later i got my corsa turbo and wiped the smile off his face then lol

So as this is vts vs sri, are you saying the solid rear beam setup on the corsa is superior ?

Arent you proving a point by being impressed simply by the fact a car lasted for more than 14k miles?.
As for the torsion beam, its no better than the solid beam on the Corsa but the corsa isnt prone to randomly snapping its coil springs or throwing you into a ditch/lamp-post/another car (cross out where necessary) from lift off over-steer.

But that's generally down to the boring setup a corsa has. Can you explain to me what point i'm proving by my statement? .. I've owned enough cars to know what in my opinion is better, and unless you like replacing MAFs and TPS's and all the other sensors that last about 5000 miles on Vauxhalls then go for it! The VTS is certainly far more fun, and has more of a sense of excitement to drive, a 1.8 sri is dull and boring but more refind.
Never heard of coil springs snapping on a VTS, certainly not on the back of a VTS either be kind of impossible..

The saxo's are prone to snapping the torsion beam.. I've seen pleanty of saggy torsion beams..
Someone above said "they did 14k hard miles in their VTS with no problems.".. 14,000 miles, yippy doo!

VTS, a decent one. Not one that has been driven through Halfords and not maintained.
But if I was going to spend money on it as a long term project, 1.8 16v SRi.

That was me, 14,000 miles being ragged and thrown about i'm not afraid to admit. My corsa and nearly every corsa on here at some point has had a sensor go, it's ridicuous. I understand you have rose tinted glasses though

I've had a VTR and had an XSi 16v (same engine). The VTR axle was fucked because it wasn't lowered properly, got another axle and it was reet. The XSi was really quite a shed, albeit a fast one. But the engine itself took an utter beating and just kept going.
