A few may know iv had a golf GT TDI.

The intercooler has kicked the bucket, as well as £250's worth of boost pipes.

Im in a dilema at the minute, its either:

Go Forge FMIC for £700

Go Standard with a Pattern side mounted intercooler for £400

Or go ebay cheapo FMIC for £240 Ebay clicky

My problem is my local tuner's said that these cheap intercoolers do nothing but leak air and the joints dont fit properly etc.

I dont know what to do.

Im abit pissed off with the fact my bros going to get a bmw e46 318 for 4k and it is a better all round car than my golf, plus it will piss all over it.

Ebay intercoolers have found theyr way onto plenty big powered cars without any problems.I was running over 300bhp on 1 with no problems.Dunno about the hoses though as i was on Samco's.

What engine is in your golf that you think a 318 BMW will piss all over it?

Nothing wrong with the coolers or the pipes themselves in their own right, but together as a kit from ebay I'd be wary of it all fitting properly as a lot of the time it's a load of universal pipes that's slung together that "almost" fits. Been down that road myself. Just make sure you can find someone on a forum that has had success with pics and you like it.

Intercooler has a hole and one boost pipe has a broken lug while the rest arnt sealing right. all tested by r-tech performance with a smoke tester.

its the boost pipes from the turbo to the intercooler that have gone.

its a remapped 1.9tdi running 180 bhp and 329ftlb

im not saying dont buy ebay cooler, but plenty of times iv bought cheap and bought twice instead. probably nothing wrong with the ebay cooler at all, just make sure you use decent mikalor clamps

id be tempted asking around and see how much you can get a forge kit for, and DIY

then again my hybrid fmic for the scoob cost £300 and is good for 600+ hp. Why would i go and buy a HKS or greddy one for £1000 that did the same?

its up to you and your money at the end of the day.

Ah, didn't even click it was a diesel mate.

Fair enough with the pipes then, sounds harsh. Replacing the OEM stuff ain't cheap, I can see where you're coming from with the ebay kit.

buy the costly one as it allows you to name drop on scene forums. Nobody in scene world will think you are cool if you go ebay style.

Buy an ebay intercooler then just buy the hoses and clamps from somewhere more reputable such as samco?

Best of both worlds then

To build your own boost pipework with Samco would cost an arm and a leg.

the main issue with see with ebay intercooler and pipe work is the pipework, usually the coolers are pretty spot on, but the pipe work can somtimes fail, silicon pipe work splits etc, it doesnt cost much to swap to decent silicone if you get it from the right places should it start to split

But it depends what is going to fail, the alloy pipes or the silcone joins, the silcone joint covers won't be hard to replace. What would you do broster?

alloy pipes wont fail. the shitty silicone in the intercooler kits will. use proper silicone bends etc and will be fine.
