I think I need a new tyre already

well, it has worn to the limit on the inside but has about 3mm on the outside so even if the tracking/balance was sorted it'd soon wear out.

First time I've needed 'performance' tyres. Haven't got a great deal of money to spend. The one that needs replacing is a Pirelli Pzero Nero. The other side has stacks of grip but is a Wanli and read bad wet reviews about them. The rears have good £150 a go Bridgestones on.

So are the Pirelli Pzero Nero's any good? What they like in wet & dry?

Size is 205/45R17V. Less than £110 fitted. Click here for some help. Can get the Pirelli's cheaper than on there.

Was impressed with the vredstien ultratacs I had on the civic in that size

£70 each iirc from elite

Drives supercharged Tec with torque

the Potenzas that are standard are decent enough, they are expensive though, Im going with Toyo TR1s next

On your car I'd just get Kuhmo's or something on the budget side of things. I wouldn't be spending over £100 for a tyre anyway.

I'm not quite sure why you think you need 'performance' tyres anyway? Personally I'd be more concerned about making the tyres the same on the same axle than spending a load on one side only.

Usually cheaper tyres are harder anyway, P-zero's will not last very long. You don't really 'need' performance tyres of any sort so I'd just go for a mid range kind of effort. People rate Kuhmo KU31's (I think thats what they are) I would not spend £100 or more, my advice.

Great cheers, the kind of answers I needed. Will try and hold out till next month and get matching tyres. Perhaps give STS Type Pro's a call tomorrow.

And AndyKent, by performance I meant they are more of a special size than 13" balloons I had on the Corsa.

I was never really impressed by potenzas, seem ok on the civic but on the punto they weren't that grippy.

It says in the handbook the speed rating should be V. But that is up to 140mph. The top speed is 111mph book figure. Could I not go for something with a lower speed rating?

I had PZero Neros on the Ibiza when I got it which were shit. Replaced them with Kumho KU31's which were 1/2 the price and 10 times better than the pirellis

I have got P-Zero Nero's, very good tyres, they will last as long as you get them tracked properly (as i found out the hard way!)

I have them in 195/40/16

Bit of an update, didn't see the point in creating a new thread.

I went with the Kumho KU31's to replace the limited P Zero Nero and dodgey Wanli.

I have to say I'm really impressed and they haven't bed in yet - going from 2 odd tyres to the same 2 is always going to be good, but I have to say they're fantastic for the money.

I got them for £155 fitted. Could have got them cheaper but paid about £7 extra as it was the only garage willing to book it in on a Saturday.

So yeah, highly recommend the KU31's.
