Nothing we do is ever gonna effect petrol prices. The companies are too big and too rich to worry about what we want.

actually, its nothing to do with the companies.

The governement are the people adding the tax.

remember for every £1 you spend on fuel, about £0.85p goes to the governement.

Before it was the price of oil per barrel going over $100. But as far as im aware (could be very wrong), the price of oil is about $80 per barrel.

They are doing it slowly and sneakly to recover the debt that the banks put us in. When it hit £1.20 last time there was a national outcry.

Well everywhere round here is about £1.15-£1.19 and no-ones muttering a word this time as they have increased it slowly and progressivly on the sly.

2p rise in fuel? Yeah only at the budget. Rest of the year it goes up every bloody month and that never gets mentioned.

As I said in the post in GC, £56 to fillup a corsa, yet in 2000 it cost me £26 and was full from empty.......

In fact, we used to go jet-skiing, fill up a 20 litre bottle, fill up the jetski, and would cost us £40 for the entire day. From Jetskiiers these days, i gather it costs them nearly £100 for a full summer days jetskiing these days!!!!! mental!!!

Diesel is around £1.16 around Manchester. Seen it for £1.15 in Preston earlier.

There are less and less cars on the road these days doing the commute. I never get stuck in traffic like i did 2.5 yrs ago.

Road Tax, insurance and fuel have all gone up which is why i'm selling my car and sharing with my Mum as she rarely uses the car and i only mine to keep it running. Bad times

People will boycott it by panic buying / stock piling fuel...

they'll still buy the same amount

People need fuel.

Reality is, it's the low exchange rate that's increased prices a lot recently.

I think your missing a major point that its not just private motorists who buy fuel. Think how many industry's use petrol/diesel.

Lorrys
Private Boats
Cargo ships
Generators
Agriculture
Construction Plant

The list goes on...

These organisations/companys/industrys will never stop buying fuel as it is how they make their business work.

It's already been mentioned, but the Government is the main reason why cost of petrol is so high. Look at how much tax is added in comparison to other countries;

Without checking the figures, I'd say that there will be more cars, not less.

There is a way to affect it though, if everyone stopped using one supplier and went to a competitor, surely that would force one to lower a bit, then everyone go there, leaving the other with no customers etc etc. DOubt it will ever happen though.

The percentage of tax compared with the actual price has come down for a couple years ago, 60% now from 72% then.

Blame the weak pound against the dollar.

Tax from the government doesn't matter.

Shell still made £13bn, and BP £10bn. Something doesnt add up.

they still make a large profit out of oil, obviously the amount of it we buy there not going to be selling it at a loss!

Also factor in what shell and bp do, they dont just sell fuel

Hit it on the nail - done 700 miles this week and apart from around town there is very little motorway traffic.

Fuel cards for the win
