i ring up about a car and the guy said that hes only recently sent the log book off and it hasnt come back yet and he has the green slip for proof of ownership etc and says that he'll write out a full recipt but do you think that sounds dodgy or would you still buy that car?

Don't understand why you would buy a car and then sell it on so soon after... It's either fucked of some sort or he's bought it to make some cash.

I would ask what the log book has been sent off for first off and see if they have a legit reason.

If so, and you have the green slip (check the small print to make sure it actually gives you ownership) then why not??

Obviously if they look dodgy as fook when you meet them then think twice

I'd want to see the log book myself before I part with any money

seems feasible (ish)

Just read the green slip very carefully and be cautious....having said that, the new log book would come back with a new green slip...possibly invalidating the old one???

I've bought a few cars where people have only had the new keeper slip.
Put your details on it, if they havent recieved the logbook in a fortnight send the new keeper slip & a v62 form to the dvla and they will proccess it for you free of charge. £25 if you dont have a new keeper slip.

the more I think about this the more dodgy it sounds....

it COULD be perfectly innocent, but if it was my money i'd be very careful

When did he buy the car? My log book took two weeks to arrive back on my new car.
The green slip will be filled out in his details?

I'd wait till he's got the V5 before parting with any money.

We had a similar thing with my Dad's Saab when he bought it. We went looking at it, was ready for doing a deal then he said he'd lost the v5 but he still had the back page of it with the green slip, so we agreed a deal, he phoned the DVLA to apply for a replacement then when it came through we went back and got it.

As long as he has the new keeper slip and everythin else looks legit it's fine.

I normally need to sell cars like that because the dvla take forever with my plates.
