My contract is up for renewal on Orange
I have a pishy little Samsung an Im wanting to upgrade to the iPhone 3GS
As far as I can see, I have the following options:
RENEW WITH ORANGE
£190.00 payment upfront
£35 per month for 18 months
£820.00 - TOTAL
SIMPLICITY WITH O2
£350.00 payment upfront (buying brand new off ebay or similar)
£20 per month for 18 months
£710.00 - TOTAL
BOTH THE ABOVE GIVE ME 600 MINUTES, UNLIMITED TEXTS AND UNLIMITED INTERNET
This suggests to me that buying the phone privately then going down the simplicity route would be the best option and would leave me with more options and not tie me into an 18 month contract because it is a rolling contract
Is that right or am I reading into this wrong?
Is there a better way of getting an iphone because I really want one
Thanks in advance guys

Either way I wouldn't buy it on orange!
Go for the simplicity option, yeh it's a bigger lump sum initialy but works out better off in the long run

I wouldnt buy an iPhone for £350 off ebay. I also wouldnt buy an iPhone 3gs now considering a new one is due in sub 3months.

I have the simplicty o2 option, which I think is between £18-£20.
I Think Tescos is cheap IIRC, but simplicity gets you more for your money.

GF's orange contract is up in two weeks also and she wants the iPhone, but she isnt bothered if its just the 3G, lets face it, she will only use it for facebook etc.
Have you considered upgrading with orange on a £20-£25 a month contract with the best phone they will offer you for free(possibly blackberry), selling the phone and putting the money towards and iPhone off eBay and putting the orange sim in it?
Therefore
18x20 = £360
Sell Blackberry for £150(depending on model)
Buy iPhone for £350
= Total £560

Yeah I have thought about that but does the contract not need to be specifically for the iPhone or the Blackberry
I know that didnt used to be the case but I didnt think i could use a blackberry contract on an iPhone (not sure why, I have jsut read that, possibly due to the internet usage or data or something?)

Why and why
Not too bothered about the new model that is coming out in all honesty
Unless it means that the 3GS will come down in price when the new one comes out

If you take the package out through the network provider (i.e. o2/orange/voda/tesco) then they'll fix the phone for FREE during the whole 18 months - where as when you buy the phone separately (on PAYG) you only get 12 months.

The old version of the phone has come down in price every time it has been superseded in the past.

Although if you didnt want to spend alot of money, wait until June/July and the 3GS will come down in price.
