Unfortunately it's not full sized This is another 1:43 model, going to use it as a bit of prepping and painting practice.

I was somehow convinced into buying this off eBay after finding it with 10 seconds left on the auction with a little help from am4nf. This is all your fault Anyway, it turned up today so here are some starting pics.

Anyway, to get the ball rolling I went to Halfords to get some more paint as I only have Arden Blue, Black Sapphire and laquer. I have added Flame Red, Rio Verde and Smoke Grey to the collection, along with some grey primer Didn't think until I got home that I might have been better off getting two grey primers, but these are only small models so meh

Tbf I did see this anyway when you said about a Corvette, thought "they look nothing like Softstars" so decided you meant something else

Spent about 2 or so hours on this tonight, have got 99.9% of the paint off

First off I had to take the top and bottom apart:

Then take the windows out:

I'll need some super fine wet and dry paper because the windows are quite scratched and I should be able to get them nice again

Anyway, then the stickers came off and I used white spirit to get the remaining glue off:

I sanded it all down with 240 grit to get the paint off them went over it quickly with some wet 600 grit to smooth it off a bit:

Then thought I'd give it some Autosol to make it look nice in the pics

Then out came the Nitromors That stuff is brilliant, pretty easy to use too. Could have done with another 1/2" brush because using a 1/2" to apply it and 1" to brush it off wasn't always the best combination. I meant to get a cheap toothbrush from the shop to brush it off with but forgot Anyway, after that I went over with the wet 600 grit and Autosol again.

This is how it stands at the moment, I kind of wanted to get some metal primer on it tonight but then it started getting dark as I spent too long messing about at the shop. But at least now I have a massive box to do painting in

I was thinking that too

Can't be bothered with all the hassle getting in the creases etc tbh.

Oh, and I noticed tonight that some idiot at Halfords had put Rover Flame Red in the Vauxhall slot so now I have to go back and change it Not paying attention ftl.

You plonker

Ant - Mine wasn't a GSi either but I'm just going to pant the bumpers black so it's close enough

Going to see if they have any 1500+ grit paper in Halfords when I change the paint in a bit.

Seen this thread and Ive decided to dig out my toy car collection and see if there is anything worth having a go at, found some very old corgi ford capri's and an escort cosworth I bought back from spain years and years ago.
Going to take them apart now and see what I can make of them

Nice one mate It also occurred to me that I have a box full of model cars somewhere, need to dig it out and have a go on some of them because most of them have half the paint missing

I got some 1200 and 1500 grit from Halfords in the end Also got my red paint changed, they even refunded it for their mistake so I basically got a free can of paint Also bought some red primer whilst I was there as it said to use it and I thought why not.

I got a pic of the massive box I got for a spray booth today, it's done the job quite nicely. I also stuck an old PC fan in the top to help get the fumes out. At 12v this thing spins at 5000rpm but the battery I'm using has about 7.9V in it. It's still having a good effect though although it could do with some sort of pipe on the other side to act as a duct, but you can't have it all

So, back to the car

First off I gave it some metal primer, 2 coats.

I did the top first and then the inside, will be doing it the other way round for the colour because a strip of paint at the top of the windscreen kept getting pulled off

Next up was the red primer, 3 coats.

I ended up kind of ruining the windows by wet sanding them so now they're going black They're just in primer at the moment like the car. This is how it has been left for tonight:

I'm really happy with how the paint has come out so far, it seems painting small things is really easy which is good

This is my paint collection now

Sorry Jonny

Glad you guys like the booth The fan does seem to reduce the amount of paint that gets blown back into my face Although it was a bit windier today so didn't really need it on.

Today I painted the inside of the car red and the windows black, the windows have come out a bit orange peely but they need to be lightly sanded before lacquering anyway so hopefully will look a lot better after

The reason I only did the inside today was that I can let it dry properly over night and then do the top, so a load of paint doesn't get pulled off again when turning it over I plan on doing more tomorrow
