With the flip out key,
Any idea how to open it up to replace the battery? Our transporter van key is dead.

Mine looks like the back will come off. theres a little slot in the side that if you put a screwdriver in it looks like it would unclip the back. Never had to do it so I'm only guessing.

do not pry it open while it is still in one piece!!!
Flip the key out.
you should see a notch about halfway down where the key 'rests'
this will seperate the key into two parts.
You will know which half has the battery.
prise that open and your done.
Then it all just clips back together.
Assuming it's not a brand new one and the key design is the same as mine was(2002 era)?

I just looked and there is a notch like you say.
I've also realised the recess where the key rests looks like it could support some form of life with the amount of shit thats in there
