Last friday i worte off my Corsa B, so am now going to have to fork out on a new car...... and its going to have to be a B again!!!!

I have been looking through classifieds, and im tempted by a redtop! seen a few LETs, 1.6 16v's!! But i just like the idea of havin a MINT corsa with a redtop

If i was to go for one of the Redtops, are they alright as an everyday car, can they be driven normally lol !?!

and one other question, obviously this is quite a hard question to answer, as all cars are different, but are they generally reliable???

Thanks
Ryan

Had a few redtop corsas.

Easy to drive sensibly, but also easy to drive like a twat. MPG wise, better than a 1.6 corsa... with mixed driving, ~250 miles to a tank.

I think i managed around 120 miles to a tank in one once.... and on the other hand managed just short of 300. They're good cars, its just whether you can afford to run them if you're constantly driving around like a penis.

if its a good engine and conversion is done right it should be alright. Most problems occur when people bodge up a conversion with half dead engines to begin with. Old engines and old sensors may well fail.

They can be driven normally once you have had your initial fun. And as Alex said they are better on fuel than a 1.6.

Generally if it has been built properly and a decent engine was sourced you shouldnt come across any major issues, will be just like owning any other car.

half the people that say they are un reliable is due to bodge jobs. Or a simple sensor fail but they cant fix it themselves so do nothing but moan. If you half clued up with spanner usage they are a simple engine to work round.

Agree with nic, very easy to work on and loads of room in the bay to work around if need be too.

make sure when buying one the ecu light is wired up as that can save a lot of minor problems being described as major issues. Just remember they are an old engine. The newest it could be is what 15 years old. Could be as old as 23 years. Great engine for how old they are. Loads of tuning potential.

Really, atleast the parts are cheap i suppose! whats top end and 0-60 roughly on 20xe, obviously different set ups would run differently, but just as a rough average?!

Dan - are you silly low on the front? what CV's/shafts you using? Mine has been going a couple years and no CV's gone yet that I'm aware.

top end is around 130-140 (although it will go off the end of the clocks.)

0-60 is about 6.5 ish maybe quicker if you can get the grip.

1/4 mile is approx 14.8 to 15.5 depending on driver etc.

No cv problems mr dizzle

infact I've had no problems with the conversion at all tbh, the only things that have gone wrong with it were normal engine problems such as the HG going.
Runs so mint now and will be returning to the road soon

so f18/f20 you'd be looking at 150's if its a good runner? even in my 1.2 8v I had problems, its inevitable to be honest, but long as it dont shake the cars to bits, and find myself forever spending on it then it worth while! its just it will have to be my every day car, but if everyone reckons a redtop B is fine as an everyday motor, then its just going to have to be done!

I had plans to LET my corsa... but a telegraph pole brought a halt to that one!

If you were driving like a twat in your 1.2 8v corsa and crashed into a pole, i strongly advise you not to get a redtop.

If it was an accident, ignore my comment.

Fair enough, corsa redtops are pretty nippy cars, easy to have an accident in too, don't take my comment the wrong way

loved mine to bits, it was smoother than any other corsa b i've been in or driven.

250miles to a tank easy, with a few heavy foot moments thrown in for fun too.

Can drive them like diesels, 30mph in 5th, foot down no need to drop a gear, it won't struggle.
