I'm meant to be flying to Cuba from Manchester tomorrow morning!!! Shit! Hope it clears enough for tomorrow. But even if it does it's gonna be hell there now.

Not good, it's my girlfriends brothers wedding out there and they're there now.

Coming to think of it, the sky does look rather ashy today.

Personally, I don't think 1 single aircraft would be affected.

There was a nearly identical incident on 15 December 1989 when KLM Flight 867, a B747-400 from Amsterdam to Anchorage, Alaska, flew into the plume of the erupting Mount Redoubt, causing all four engines to fail.

"Nats has good cause to be very cautious about this because in about 1982 a British Airways jumbo had the unnerving experience of having all four engines shut down as it flew through a plume of volcanic ash."

Something like this happened in the states and it caused a planes engines (all four of them) to stall, apparently the pilot had to put the plane into a dive (he was at quite a high alt.) to get the engines spinning and then give them fuel to start it up again.

TRUE INTERNET STORY.

If you look where the ash is, its nowhere near scotland, let alone london, any areas near scotland are merely "ash present".

I can understand closing scottish airports, maybe, but not london ones

Not worth taking the risk steve, we're talking about planes full of people here

also you got to think of flight paths, planes never go as the crow flies do they?
