I'm meant to be flying to Cuba from Manchester tomorrow morning!!! Shit! Hope it clears enough for tomorrow. But even if it does it's gonna be hell there now.

Not good, it's my girlfriends brothers wedding out there and they're there now.

I'm gutted, my dad was due to fly out of dublin airport this morning to come see his grandson for the first time. Cancelled so had to go back home again, now gotta wait n see how long it takes to get another flight.

There was a nearly identical incident on 15 December 1989 when KLM Flight 867, a B747-400 from Amsterdam to Anchorage, Alaska, flew into the plume of the erupting Mount Redoubt, causing all four engines to fail.

Something like this happened in the states and it caused a planes engines (all four of them) to stall, apparently the pilot had to put the plane into a dive (he was at quite a high alt.) to get the engines spinning and then give them fuel to start it up again.

Yeah heard about that story on some program on TV, they flew right into the ash so yes I would expect adverse effects from that

If you look where the ash is, its nowhere near scotland, let alone london, any areas near scotland are merely "ash present".

I can understand closing scottish airports, maybe, but not london ones

as i understand the blue bits are dense ash and the rest just ash present, which could mean anything really. TBH im not going on a plane soon so im quite happy to sit here and argue they should be flying
