Download the latest software, put it on any micro sd (the bb one will do) put some roms in the games folder and thats it.

when i download the software there isnt a games folder? wherever i put the game files i just get a black screen with "loading..."

You probably have the wrong firmware loaded. Or try a lower 2GB SD card. There is a few types of R4 card and one only supports up to 2GB SD cards and needs the correct firmware.
Another is the Revolution and supports 4GB+ cards.

i cant work out if ive got the right firmware, all i know is wherever i download it from there isnt a folder called games.
im using a 4gb sdhc card, and my dad used to use this r4 card with a 4gb before he gave it to me so it def supports 4gb

I think only some of the r4's support sdhc so might be that? great things when they work though.

just gonna go round to my dads later and get him to set it up for me, he gave me the ds because hes got a dsi xl thing and has the newer R4 so reckons that can use my sdhc card
